For starters, the entire city is a designated tow-away zone. This means that if you are found in violation of any parking rules, you could be towed. NYC is so serious about towing that the NYPD even has its own fleet of tow trucks. Here\u2019s how to avoid being towed right off the bat:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Make sure your vehicle registration and inspection stickers are up\u00a0to date, if applicable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Never, ever double park your vehicle. If there\u2019s already a car parked beside the curb, do not park beside it. Ever.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Do not park your car within 15 feet of either side of a fire hydrant. Don\u2019t rely on those nifty painted curbs, either. They lie.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

    Parking meter rates in Coney Island generally range from $1.25 to $4 per hour, depending on the location. In business areas, rates tend to be higher, typically between $2 and $4 per hour. Neighborhood retail zones usually charge around $1.50 to $2.50, and other metered locations typically cost $1.25 to $2 per hour. The Department of Transportation uses Pay-By-Plate meters, meaning drivers must enter their license plate information, and receipts are not needed.
